L 'review from Le Figaro

9/10This is unquestionably one of the finest addresses in New York. The place is racy and authentic. The difference is in the tiniest details. In addition to being an actor, director and producer of international stature, among the most rewarded, Robert de Niro also wears the cap of a businessman. The star dreamed of the ideal place to stay, invite his friends, his family, in the heart of Manhattan, the bet is successful!

The location

9/10The Greenwich Hotel is located at the corner of Greenwich Street and North Moore Street in the TriBeCa neighborhood (acronym for “Triangle Below Canal Street”). This former industrial area, many of whose warehouses have been converted into lofts, is now one of NYC's most desirable neighborhoods. Both chic and trendy and although very south of Manhattan, many stars reside there. Known for 19th and 21st century industrial architecture, Tribeca also owes its reputation to its growing number of art galleries, designer boutiques, bars and restaurants.

Deco

9/10The Greenwich built in Pennsylvania bricks, has 88 rooms (including 12 suites and a 260m2 penthouse) spread over eight floors. Passed the door, guaranteed immersion in another world, far from the urban jungle. The decoration, signed by the Belgian art dealer Axel Vervoordt and Robert de Niro himself, is intimate and without ostentation. From the lobby with its marble and terracotta floor inspired by 14th century Italian palaces, to the bar and the rooms, styles and eras collide in harmony. Leather club armchairs, antique sofas upholstered in refined fabrics, designer lamps, thick rugs, and on the walls, paintings by De Niro senior. In the leafy patio, a work by Frenchman JR.

The rooms

9/10There are no single rooms here, each has its own personality. We tested a "Deluxe King" on the 6th floor with a view of Greenwich and North Moore Street. Walnut furniture, parquet floor in wide oak slats enhanced with handmade Tibetan rugs. The very comfortable king-size bed is fitted with a mattress from the Swedish brand Dux. And to complete the decoration, a few well-chosen objects and many books. The bathroom, decorated with a marble mosaic on the floor and Moroccan zelliges on the walls, is equipped with a walk-in shower. All rooms have a large flat screen, an iPad (to communicate directly with reception, the bar or room service) and Bose speakers. The skincare range has been specially designed by the Red Flower Ocean brand.

Service and facilities

9/10From check-in, which can be done in the room on request, to check-out, the service is refined and discreet. As a welcome gift, a bottle of Italian red wine is offered along with some sweets. Drinks (non-alcoholic) as well as snacks are offered at your discretion during your stay.
To disconnect, head to the Shibui spa located in the basement of the building. The setting: a 250-year-old farmhouse purchased in Japan and reassembled piece by piece without using a single nail. This is also where the lantern-lit swimming pool is located. The massages (from €205) are done on tatami mats and are inspired by the 4 elements (water, earth, fire and air) according to the principles of Chinese and Japanese medicine. Next door, a beautiful all-wooden fitness studio, equipped with very sophisticated equipment, is reserved primarily for hotel residents.

At the table and at the bar

9/10The Locanda Verde restaurant, with a typically New York decor with its red brick walls and rather industrial furniture, offers an Italian menu. In the main room, walls made of recycled New England oak wood, and a fireplace identical to the one in Robert De Niro's apartment. In the kitchen, everything is homemade. Chef Andrew Carmellini serves simple and refined dishes. Must-try: the truffle ravioli (€80), the “Dry Aged NY Strip Steak” (€50) and the chocolate tart (€12.50). Open from breakfast to dinner, the restaurant also provides the hotel's room service 24 hours a day.

The value for money

8/10The 32 m² courtyard room with queen-size bed and walk-in shower is available from €600 per night excluding breakfast (€40 more per person for a continental breakfast, Ed). Count €900 for the Deluxe King and from €1,406 for the 60 m² Studio suite. Not cheap, but we are in a five-star hotel in the middle of Manhattan.
Finally, lovers of wide open spaces will be able to fall for the 260 m² Tribeca penthouse offered from... €15,000 per night! at this rate, you will enjoy the two bedrooms with king-size beds, a child's bedroom, a living room with fireplace, a dining area, a kitchen and a bar, two bathrooms with large showers with rain effect and bathtubs, a shower room, a sauna, a hammam and an office space with separate service entrance... Not to mention the 370 m² terrace on two levels.
