Reissued, revisited and constantly declined, the Acapulco armchair, all in scoubidou yarn, can be installed just as well inside and outside for a touch of exoticism. Zoom in on the sunny style of this icon of Mexican design.
Do you want to add some vitamins to your home? The Acapulco armchair, and its very graphic design, is made for you. Designed using the Mayan hammock weaving technique, the most comfortable in the world it seems, this armchair with a more or less round frame and "scoubidou thread" structure creates a real cocoon in which to sit and daydream. And if it settles first in the gardens, it has long since left the outdoors to become an armchair in the house in its own right.
What is the origin of the Acapulco armchair?
The origins of the Acapulco armchair remain rather vague. Legend has it that it was designed in Mexico, by who knows what craftsman, at the request of a French tourist visiting Acapulco who was looking for the ideal armchair for his sunbathing, between the 1940s and 1950s. The result? A comfortable and light armchair which presents a very good resistance to heat thanks to the use of the plastic cane and which quickly became popular in Mexico. Out of fashion at the end of the 20th century, it reappeared in Europe in a traveling exhibition showcasing Mexican design in 2008. It was enough to inspire design editors who then relaunched its production, offer variants and give it back its letters of nobility. Since then, it has won over in a colorful and pop version for the garden, but can also be found in interiors with a sharp design in a graphic black version, for example.
