Popus Editions: when furniture brings joy

How to explain the high desirability of armchairs, sofas, lamps, poufs or even accessories and tableware from the brand new brand Popus Editions? Probably because its creators, Yannick and Fanny Gicquel, are not young decorators.

Inspired by Yannick's native Morocco at the beginning, they were for the first time editors of furniture and decoration for about twenty years with La Fibule. They then developed another know-how in the architecture studio Le Refuge which they set up in Megève. It is a different profession that they develop, around second homes where meeting this "specific market" delighted them. Fanny explains: “This clientele showed remarkable creativity by asserting its tastes much more than in a main residence, the dwelling being dedicated to leisure stays. The latter indeed define the sensitive and profound personality of the inhabitants.

There is swinging London in Popus

Having left to live in London in 2015, the crazy touch of the English capital stings them. Everything inspires them here: the multicolored doors, the houses of Notting Hill, the queen's outfits, the so British clubs like the Annabels, the fabrics,... "Each place is a less timid architecture lesson than in France. And everything is done there with such ceremonial” explains Fanny before illustrating the idea “In English clubs the lower curtain is lined with wadding and sealed for a perfect fall on the deepest of carpets. ". Comfort is precisely the second leitmotif of the Popus collection.

A decorative remedy for gloom

Brilliant colors, generous and comfortable curves, elegant materials, all mixed in a vintage spirit: this excellent remedy for gloom invokes multiple inspirations. We think of the Riviera of the 60s as well as the Amalfi Coast of the 70s, but also of ready-to-wear like the La Double J brand that Fanny particularly appreciates. One cannot help but find concordances with the worlds of the iconic India Mahdavi, Laura Gonzalez or Sarah Poniatowski whose relationship to form and color defines the signature.

The reasons for satisfaction of the collection

From these various sources of inspiration spring 5 models of sofas and almost as many models of armchairs, coffee tables, poufs and lights available in infinite possibilities, the site indeed allowing you to compose your own combinations of colors and patterns. of fabrics. It's hard to choose when you know that the brand also collaborates with the biggest houses: Dedar, Pierre Frey and Le Manach, Bisson Bruneel, Métaphores...

For the other favorite materials, we retain ceramics, Yannick's first passion almost "fell into it when he was little". We also love the glossy lacquer that animates this predominantly yellow, green and pink furniture, always enhanced by a touch of white, and which they have had made in Vietnam by a French designer whom they have known for a very long time. Nothing is left to chance.

"Another life begins when you return home"

Although their travels feed their creativity, it is around this certainty that “another life begins when you return home” that Fanny and Yannick Gicquel built this first opus Popus. Lovers of well-being, favoring the cocooning spirit, the couple worked on the entire universe of the living room, celebrating the pleasure of being at home and of receiving people there. For example, poufs meet the need of the hostess to sit everywhere depending on the course of an evening, but for a short time, because she prefers to remain mobile. As for the small side tables, they follow the guests so that they are comfortable wherever they sit. As practical as it is, the collection does not deny its elegance. Evidenced by the materials chosen, glass, lacquer, metal, ceramic or wood, which respond subtly to the nobility of the fabrics that dress the seats. The few pieces of tableware with 70's motifs and the large, chic and colorful homewear dresses complete this first collection which makes a strong impression at first sight.
