Soapbox features allow our editors and individual contributors to express their opinions on topical subjects and random things on which they chewed.Today, Stewart is thinking about his decades of testing to go to Pokémon and his pleasure of finally getting out of the cold ...
Back in the misty valleys of 1999 and at 12, I must admit that I was a fan of Pokémon.I have good anime memories on Citv - a program that looked so unusual and stylized for a complete virgin of anime like me that it was sometimes incredible.I bought magazines, books and toys.I even made a wooden shrink as part of a school project.I loved Pokemon, if you forgive me the inevitable, a lot of things happen. But I never had a game boy.
You have certainly played games.I was going to borrow with a friend who wears him red Pokémon and you enter Viridian City, without really understanding the overhaul between what you have decided to be an icy rhythm with boring and repetitive fights and a completely severe action. And this is what happened to me with the supplements; played (partially) Pokémon Oret Pokémon Diamantet Pokémon Blancet Pokémon X and recently Pokémon Step.We cannot say that I did not try (and tried) to enter this main series.
You might ask yourself why I took a long time and money in a series that I clearly don't like. This is a reasonable question to which I think I can answer; almost 400 million players cannot be mistaken. This means that when a series is so successful, there is clearly an advantage in there and it frustrates me as a player and writer (nose, nose I can't see it by myself.
So I tried to appreciate these games, and even if I would be better with some of them than with others (cry on gold and white), I never finished them.I was simply bored by what looked like a repetitive, unattractive and simplistic game, and I stopped.I will move.
READLe nouveau PDG de Roll20 promet des améliorations aux fans de D&D et autres RPGHowever, I must remind you that this does not reflect contempt for Pokemon as a privilege.Where the main series has failed to motivate me, I will have a kick from the Pokemon Likes Flipperet Collecting Pokémon and Dukejon Pokémon Dukejon.Add this to my general love of the first anime (everything to the Snubbull episode) and you have a series that I really want to appreciate. But a gameplay that did not seem to evolve from its Game Boy roots held me far away.
If the Pokémon as creatures are so special, why don't we see that? Even in Pokémon Sword, the fights seem anemic and static to me.Where is the drama to wait for your opponent to make his gesture? This is something I can adapt to in the RPGs like; I have nothing at all with the fight in turn, but all these years now withoutAlmost no development? Nothing really to express or improve characterization? It's not me guys.I used to find myself dreaming of a Pokémon game without this kind of restrictions; an open or semi-maudit world firmly places you in the role of an adventurous coach rather than an avatar descending limited to directionscardinal.
The mystery and promise of Pokémon Legends: Arceus release the imagination.Despite this? I didn't care.It was a new Pokémon, right? Same thing with a new layer of paint
Then he came Pokémon Legends: Arceusun Title which made his debut with an intriguing little trailer that seemed to refer to what seems to have been simply described as the response of Pokémon out of nature.Few things have been shown on the game, but its mystery and its promises ignited the imagination.Despite this? I didn't care.It was a new Pokémon, right? Same thing with a new layer of paint.Fans will certainly love more power for them. But not me.I paid for my subscription.Pokémon Sword was the last chance of the series to impress me.I'm done.
READChips de pomme sur la tableHowever, it turns out that Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the best Pokémon game ever made by Mill Diagonal and he corrects everything I didn't like on the series. He recreates a player's relationships with his Pokémon by the simple fact of making them live around you.Wild Pokémon run through the open world and sometimes attack you as soon as you see them. These are not docile bites that wait invisibly in tall grass, they are wild and dangerous animals. Are you afraid of Pokémon. You respect Pokémon.
Catching Pokémon is no longer necessarily a question of choosing a Poké Ball in a list-you can sneak in monsters and start the damn thing yourself. It’s so overwhelming and satisfactory to be the one who pulls and launches a pok ball after decades to make "catch them all" books ".Now you are there with the wild Pokémon and you avoid their attacks for fear that you will end up passing out.
The battles remain in turn, what moved me away from the game at first, but in practice, it is a huge improvement thanks to the fact of allowing the player to move and detach himself, to observe the battle thatfollows from any angle and to move to an active part of the action. It's lively, it's tense and frankly it's pretty cool.I cannot insist too much on the extent to which I find myself immersed in the debates because of this considerably more dynamic and fascinating approach to one of its basic mechanisms.
There is a very real feeling of understanding and in a game which is ultimately entirely devoted to the conservation of fauna, would that not generate a feeling of stronger connection between you and your Pokémon?
The new emphasis put on pokémon hunting may require treating each creature individually and treating them in different ways, strengthening your relationship with them and making each monster more memorable than it was before. There is a very real feeling of understanding and in a game ultimately linked to the conservation of fauna (it is!), Would that not generate a stronger feeling of connection between you and your Pokémon? READ'Street Fighter 6' a été confirmé via une nouvelle bande-annonceNone of this is intended to undermine the apparent success of the Pokémon formula for the moment;Bright diamonds and brilliant pearls proof that the traditional flavor still resonates among gamers. But what's new and I dare to say modern the Pokémon Legends trend: Arceus is not only a boon for fans; he introduces a brand new group of players in the series.Although there have been many developments in the Pokémon formula, it seems important revolution. It also proves that it is never too late - even for the largest, most established and profitable channel - to change.Traditional games are not going to disappear, of course, but Legends: Arceus brings a brand new wave of fans and rejuvenates all the franchise.I hope the lessons learned here will be postponed to the future of the series
Or, if they don't, they can simply translate Pokémon GB2 card and stick it in the Game Boy app for Nintendo Switch Online, if and when it is there. Both are fine.cheers.
