Neem, a seed from India
The Neem, also called Margouseier (Melia Azadirachta or Azadirachta Indica)))))))), is a very widespread tree in India. We meet it in all hot climates. Its seeds are pressed to give an oil to the strong smell, and the main active substance of which is azadirachtin.Neem oil is used traditionally by Indian farmers, as a fertilizer and natural insecticide.
Mode of action on parasites
Neem oil, and more precisely azadirachtin, is effective on a large number of insects and mites, and in particular caterpillars, certain aphids, certain thrips (that of onion for example)))))))), mites,In particular red spiders, rides, and many Diptères and Hymenoptera.
It acts on several levels of the physiology of these insects:
The effects of neem oil on parasites are not immediate, it takes 2 or 3 days to see the death of insects or their flight.
Anti-parasitic repulsive and household acaricide
Neem oil can be used in curative as well as preventive, because it has a repellent action on parasites, those of plants of course, but also those of animals (ticks, flies, chips, mosquitoes...)))))))).It is also used as a household product, especially to eliminate mites (sofas, mattresses, cushions, carpets, carpet...)))))))).
Use
Unless you find ready-to-use preparation, you can make a spray yourself by introducing 5 to 10 ml of pure neem oil in a vaporizer and completing with water to reach around 100 ml.Shake well before use to disperse the oil in the water, then spray on the plants.
Controversy around Neem oil
You should know that neem oil is not authorized for sale in France for phytosanitary use.Indeed, Azadirachtine saw its registration in Annex I of Directive 91/414/EEC refused by the European Commission, in 2008.This molecule cannot therefore be incorporated as an active ingredient in an insecticide or a marketed acaricide to be used on plant crops (agriculture, market gardening, horticulture, maintenance of green spaces, gardening...)))))))).
If however you want to use it, nothing prevents you from buying neem oil sold for cosmetic or household use, or even fertilizer.Note that in the United States, its use is authorized as a phytosanitary treatment in organic farming.
What about the effect of neem oil on bees?
Another question raised by the use of neem oil: is it dangerous for bees? The answer is unfortunately yes, but it is however largely preferable to other chemical insecticides.

I was advised this product because my plants are infested with pests.Yes but here, I read what is noted...And I find out everywhere. This product is harmful to bees. So, for users of this product, ok, let them simply be aware of it and the day we talk, as we often talk about, the disappearance of bees...that they remember that they have in their own way participate in their next extinction.I prefer to refrain from it and not cry after...

Hello François, Nem's pro and anti oil studies are contradicted;Today, it is difficult to know what are the real risks for auxiliary fauna. It seems that azadirachtin is very quickly destroyed by light, which reduces the risks. When in doubt, I abstain...

Hello, beware Azadirachta Indica and Melia Azadirachta are two different trees.Their most obvious distinction is at the leaves, Melia Azadirachta is bipenné while Azadirachta Indica is simply Penné.On the other hand the insecticide properties of Melia Azadirachta are less obvious.
