I sincerely thank my friend Alain from Brussels for writing my previous diary so that this story is not interrupted. The day before, the day was really too scary. It was difficult for me to collect my thoughts to write even a few lines. The explosions became more intense, thundering constantly. I left my shelter. I am in the apartment now to write you these few lines.
21st day of the war. An intensified curfew is currently in effect in Kyiv. What does it mean ? Usually, before, it lasted from evening to morning. Now it is imposed two whole days! We are not allowed to go out or drive for two days! You can only leave the apartment to go to or from the refuge. We cannot go to the store or the pharmacy.
kyiv is one of the main objectives of the enemy. And the situation around the city remains very tense. The enemy bombs residential buildings in the Ukrainian capital. And it is possible that sabotage groups will enter the city. That's why we are very careful even when we run from our building to the air-raid shelter.
Right now, we desperately need ideas to distract us from the sound of explosions outside. I tried it a few days ago, and it went pretty well. In my family, my eldest sister is the most frightened by explosions, and for good reason: you have to remember that she spent two weeks in a basement in the town of Boutcha, and that fighter planes and helicopters flew over their house while the artillery fired continuously. So much so that the door was torn off. It's a little quieter in kyiv, she says. But still explosions. One night it was too disturbing. And I offered … to watch a movie. It's a proposal that suits me well, I love movies, my family knows it. For my sister, I chose the film "Yesterday" by Danny Boyle. The story is about a guy who suddenly finds himself to be the only person on the planet who has heard of The Beatles. He became a superstar after reintroducing their songs to the world. We are both big fans of the "Liverpool four". My sister gave me their vinyl when I was 10. It was still the Soviet Union.
Just imagine the spectacle: we are lying on the sofa, shells are exploding outside the window and we are watching a movie. And my only wish is that the Beatles songs drown out the din of shells outside and that my sister will calm down a bit.
We are staying in Kyiv. We intend to survive. No choice.
