The cleaning of a sofa is done differently depending on the type of coating. So first you need to know what material covers your sofa: whether leather, fabric, microfibre or suede!
Cleaning a fabric sofa
The fabric does not like too much water, because it leaves halos. You should preferably use a wet cloth to remove a stain on a fabric sofa.
For basic cleaning of a fabric sofa, you can use soapy water (black soap, Marseille soap and even dishwasher). Alternatively, you can also mix water with white vinegar equally or use a 70 °alcohol spray. However, if the sofa is very dirty, prefer to dilute 3 tablespoons of soda crystals in a bowl of hot water to brush over the fabric with a soft brush.
Maintaining a leather sofa
Leather is the easiest material to clean: you pass a wet sponge and it's over. Like fabric, leather does not like too much water, so make sure to wipe well after cleaning.
A sofa convertible into microfibre
Just like the sofa that can be converted to fabric, it simply needs to be dusted regularly. Baking soda is a very good remover. To use it, simply spread the powder over the stain and rub a little so that it permeates the fabric. Leave the powder to work for several hours before vacuuming the powder.
NB: watch out for water cleaning that promotes moisture odours and moulds in the padding. Instead, use a wet rag or a well-watered toilet glove.
