A villa with discreet opulence in Texas

When we think of the idea of luxury in the field of design, the images that come to mind are those of shimmering interiors with golden garnishes, marble, chandeliers and furniture. The architect and interior designer Chad Dorsey has a very different idea of the term. The practice of his workshop is indeed revolved around the notion of relaxed luxury or discreet opulence, as this elegant house in Texas demonstrates. But despite this, the designer does not fail to pay great attention to materials and details, in order to create interiors in the comfortable atmosphere.

“The architecture of the place was already very strong, rich in very anchored elements: so we were lucky. We wanted our furniture to be light so that the original structure could breathe and not be too heavy, ”says the designer. The owners were winegrowers from Napa Valley, already fans of Chad Dorsey's work.Their project?A balanced and chic house where to relax.

Une villa à l'opulence discrète au Texas

Built in 1999, the property combines classic style and modern simplicity.Inside, the rooms, beautifully proportioned, are decorated at least, but underlined by high ceilings and large windows overlooking the gardens. The sumptuous volumes are balanced by the use of raw materials, such as the exposed wooden beams in the living room and the vaulted ceiling in bricks in the kitchen, which bring a vitality tinged with a certain rustic elegance.

"The starting point was to create a space that was both inspiring and comfortable," continues Chad Dorsey, whose approach to design goes among other things by the use of "habitable furniture", which invite to live with lightness andto feel at home. This is why the villa is swarming with seats, armchairs, curly sofas and large stools to relax.

"The space in the living room was incredible but selecting rooms that allowed to have views of the courtyard and the entrance without having your back in the interior room was a real challenge," explains the designer. This constraint has been overcome by creating groups of seats that dialogue with each other: some discreet seats are placed around the fireplace, then a pair of imposing leather armchairs occupies a corner, and a Barcelona day bed is placedNear the window, accompanied by a small table, perfect for cocktail time.

The choice of designer in terms of furniture, accessories and works of art is a clever mixture of objects with customers a sentimental value, combined with new personalized furniture. These include the bedside table of Christian Liaigre and the amazing vintage bronze chair in the corridor."It was an incredible process. The villa embodies all the aspects that I like in a space, ”concludes Chad Dorsey, who has managed to create a refined balance while integrating his style with the artisanal and classic character of the building.
