Satinating a pallet wood with the weathering patina is an excellent solution to give an older finish appearance. Moreover, the work is not very complicated if one proceeds in a methodical way. Pallet furniture is still just as popular in the interior decoration of a house. Nevertheless, it often gets a bad rap because it's coarse, bulky and dust-catching. However, it does not take much to have a very beautiful end result. First, you have to choose your recovery palette carefully. Afterwards, we carefully dismantle the pallet to use all the boards. Finally, all that remains is to let your creative mind play.
A pallet is designed to be reused for as long as possible. Indeed, its design allows it to be recovered many times. It remains a material of choice to get out of the form often imposed in creation. We can thus create a shelter, a terrace, a swimming pool deck, a planter, a table or garden furniture, for example. One can then easily use this practically inexhaustible ecological resource.
An unmarked pallet is often intended for transporting goods within a territory. The pallets have a wide variety of formats, but the main dimensions that are most often found are 60 x 80 cm, 80 x 120 cm or 100 x 120 cm. It is used for a light, semi-heavy or heavy load. The species most used to make an aging wooden pallet are generally poplar, spruce, Douglas fir, Scots or maritime pine. The patina to age is composed of mineral pigments which are carefully selected for their very good resistance to the exterior. In addition, the product makes it possible to enhance the wood to restore all of its original natural warmth.
How to prepare pallet wood?
Preparing a pallet wood before patinating with the patina to age, is an essential work to obtain a good effect of aging. In the first step, the dust is carefully removed in order to obtain a clean support. In the second step, the pallet is cleaned with an appropriate degreasing product. In the third step, the fibers are opened with a wire brush for good penetration of the product.
1 - Make the surface clean: always make sure that the surface is healthy, clean and dry. The wood must be freed of all non-adherent particles to find a support suitable for treatment. This prerequisite is particularly important because it ensures good adhesion of the patina that will cover the material.
2 - Degrease the wood: the wood must be properly degreased with a specific cleaning product in order to obtain a surface clean enough to be patinated. It is recommended to use a cloth or a sponge impregnated with solvent. It must be changed as often as possible so as not to spread the fatty substances over the entire surface.
3 - Open the pores of the wood: it is recommended to open the pores of the wood generously with a wire brush to achieve a good patina effect. Just brush in the direction of the fibers without insisting too much on the same area. It is advisable to finish by lightly scraping the surface to smooth out the rougher areas.

Finally, the pores of the material are impregnated to saturation to fill it well.
1 - Protect the site: it is recommended to work the wood in the most correct environment possible. The material should be worked over cardboard, plastic wrap or a tarp. This protection is used to collect deposits, residues or any drippings of product so as not to pollute the site too much.
2 - Mixing the patina: it must be mixed very carefully with a mixer before use. Indeed, it is imperative to resuspend all the raw materials which are solidified at the time of storage. We thus find all the quality, performance and original color of the product.
3 - Impregnate the wood: carefully impregnate the wood fiber until the material is completely saturated. It is advisable to use a cloth, a cotton wick or a large sponge for example. The patina is applied according to very regular rotary movements in the shape of 8. It is necessary to generously fill the pores to obtain a good effect of aged wood.
