This is how we made an extra long shower curtain (+17...

An extra long shower curtain is hard to find, but why? Today, I'm detailing our method for making a floor-to-ceiling shower curtain, and sharing a roundup of my favorites!

our Tree House bathroom renovation

Have you ever tried to buy an extra long shower curtain? Anything, anything! – longer than the standard 72″? If you have, then you know this is one of the unsolved mysteries in the world as to why they don't come in multiple lengths I guess it has something to do with standards for fabric bolts (did you know?) but a shower curtain which can go from floor to ceiling not only makes your room seem taller, but it also helps trap in the heat of your shower. In other words, it's downright dreamy!

So, until shower curtains come in multiple lengths (just like any other curtain!), you can either make your own or browse the web for available options. As notorious over-researchers, we have you gotten some of the hard work out of it, we hope. I'm sharing how we made our own extra long shower curtain using curtain panels, and I'm also sharing a roundup of the cutest on the web at the end of this article.Let's go!

Cheat Code | Take it to the cleaners!

In Kim's way, I thought too much about the shower curtain during our recent Tree House bathroom remodel, but as soon as I landed on these Kalei panels, I just knew. those! I waited for a sale and jumped up, picking up two in the 96 inch length. Our bathroom ceiling is just under 100″ high and after the first wash the panels have shrunk to about 90″ – but they are slightly stretchy with a nice weight, so they drape beautifully.

I took both panels to our dry cleaner and requested that they be sewn down the middle, with an overall width of 80 inches. This would give the seamstress 20 inches of leeway to play with the repeat of the pattern, and she nailed it, giving the pair of panels a mirror-like image. We paid $20, and as someone who can't sew to save her life, I was thrilled!

Adding grommet

Next step was to add the grommets. I needed this to last, so I picked up these 1/2" grommets + this pint sized kit + that had all the tools (minus the hammer! ) To give me 12 perfect rust rings - the same number of holes in a shower liner.

I found this video which shares the easiest step by step to using the kit. (Just watch it for the music!) I found you had to be serious when hammering, but once I got my technique down, I was able to complete all 12 rings in about 15 minutes. I love that I also have this little grommet kit for future projects - it's so compact.

And that's all!

We got our brass shower rod from Lowe's, but it looks like it's no longer available. This one is similar* (if not identical!), and we paired our extra long shower curtain with these brass rings and that equally long liner. We have the same liner in our Chicago home and love it; it's washable and more like fabric, which helps it hang nicely.

* We prefer a one-piece rod that can be mounted with anchors in the wall or tile. They can be cut to size and you'll never have to worry about a tension rod falling on your head again!

Think of all those waiting curtains, hoping that one day they might become the most beautiful shower curtains. Do it for the curtains!

But if you've wished for the prettiest extra long shower curtain you can buy with a click, I've got you too, boo. Everything below is at least 90″ long unless otherwise noted. almost chose number 2 for Tree House, and how cute is number 5 for a child's bath? #13 is a classic, that's for sure.
