Aboard his Aston Martin AMR22, the Quebecer completed his fastest lap in 1 min 23.327 s, more than two seconds behind his teammate Sebastian Vettel's best time (1:21.276), sixth. Stroll, however, was wearing harder tires.
Lando Norris put McLaren at the top of the timesheet, having covered the track in 1:19.568. He is thus the only one to cross the threshold of 80 seconds. The two Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc (1:20.165) and Carlos Sainz Jr. (1:20.416) followed him, ahead of George Russell (1:20.784) and Lewis Hamilton (1:20.929), of Mercedes.
Testing will continue Thursday and Friday in Spain before moving to Bahrain from March 10-12. It is in this Persian Gulf country that the 2020 season will begin on March 18.
