How to reduce reflections on your TV

The screens of our televisions are often perfect mirrors. The slightest reflection then becomes very, very painful. What to do to make them disappear?Follow the guide !

In a perfect world, we would only watch television in the dark. The problem is that, half of the day, the sun is lifted, and you most certainly have windows, lamps and other light sources coming back on your TV.These reflections can be distracting and worse, they can prevent you from seeing and decreasing the quality of the image.

This guide offers you some tips to help you keep the best image quality, despite a strong light.

Why does your TV screen reflect light?

Modern TVs have shiny screens, which act as mirrors with any light source.Other TVs have more matte screens, but reflections are always a problem, although to a lesser extent.Instead of sending you the light, a matte slab will spread it on a larger area on the screen. The reflections are reduced but the blacks become clearer.

No matter the TV, if there is light in the room that arrives on the screen, you will also see it and the quality of the image will suffer.

Comment réduire les reflets sur votre téléviseur

Learn to love black but pay attention to eye fatigue

The easiest way to reduce reflections is to turn off the lights, right?Somehow. There is a reason why we like to leave at least one light by watching television, eye fatigue.Watching television in the dark requires a big eye effort. This is especially true with HDR TV.

You can thus configure your TV so that it is darker to minimize eye fatigue in a dark room.If it works, you will no longer have to leave a light light. No more light, more reflection, problem solved.

If you have an LCD TV, it's easy. Most LCDs offer backlight control while OLED TVs offer to act on the brightness of Pixels OLED.Look in the settings of your TV.Decrease it to obtain a more relaxing image and deeper black levels. For HDR content, TV often pushes brightness a lot.

Other options: invest in a larger television or get closer to the screen.Eye fatigue occurs because of the black and the small area - the screen - very bright. It's the same as when someone triggers a flash in your eyes. With a large TV, you will have more light in the eye.In theory at least.

Watching television in the middle of the day is a totally different problem.Unable to turn off the sun.

Protect your eyes: put a lamp behind the TV to eliminate the reflections

Place a light source behind the television will increase the ambient light, and reduce eye effort, without causing reflections.Choose the color of this light as neutral as possible. For example, a red light will give you the impression of a less red tv image.

Try tilt the TV or move the items

Another option is to mount the screen on a medium capable of moving. In case of reflections, you can then move the screen slightly so that the reflections are not returned to you.Be careful, however, coming to move the screen too much, the image quality can be altered.

The other possibility is to simply move the light source so that it does not reflect on the screen.Obvious, certainly, but not always feasible.

Invest in connected lighting to control them without moving

With connected lights, and connected or not to a vocal digital assistant, you can control the different lighting of the room without having to move each time and thus react quickly as soon as a reflection appears.

Occulting and awning curtain

If the room has a lot of windows, you will have to fight the sun.And it's not your TV that will win.If modern TVs are quite capable of working in a strong ambient light, the image quality always greatly suffers.

It is possible to invest in blackout curtains or solar breezes, motorized or not, to protect you from sunlight. And temperature, at the same time.If you opt for a motorized and connected solution, make sure it can integrate into the installation of your connected home.Very appreciable additional comfort.
