How to use a shower curtain for a door or window treatment...

Have you ever thought of using a fabric shower curtain for a door or window treatment? That's what I'm sharing with you today, and I'm really happy with the outcome.

We have glass doors in our basement near my arts/crafts space. A lot of sunlight comes through the door. I love sunlight and that's one of the reasons I have chose this space. It makes me so happy. But sometimes it's a little too much sun.

I wanted to soften the light a bit and add some privacy, so I hung a "shower curtain curtain". Yes, a fabric shower curtain can make a great curtain for a doorway or window.C was news to me!

Here's how I did it.

I had a fabric shower curtain that I had used in our previous home. Since we moved a few years ago, the shower curtain had just been put away.

I already had a properly sized adjustable tension curtain rod (oil rubbed bronze) that fits into the frame of the sliding glass door, and purchased matching curtain rings with clips of the same color, to slide over the rod and clip the curtain in. Mine was a 1 inch tension rod so I bought the curtain rings a little bigger. I think the rings are about 1 1/2 inches.

I slipped the rings over the rod, placed the tension rod in the door frame and adjusted it tight, then clipped the curtain. The clips made it so easy.

Voila, instant door curtain.

This curtain in particular is hard to iron so I steamed it. I have this hand held fabric steamer. I have to thank my daughter for singing the praises of portable steamers, having had some a.I rarely iron so I bought the clothes steamer to avoid ironing shirts when I forget to take them out of the dryer soon enough. of fabric to steam, so it took a while!)

There is a little gap between the rod and the top of this door, which I like. It lets light in, while I still have some privacy. I could add some coordinating fabric to the bottom of the curtain, to lengthen the curtain. Then I could hang the curtain higher and there would be no visible door glass at the top. But, I decided that I like this light coming through the top.

If you want to make your own curtain from a shower curtain, everything you need can be easily found at a discount store or online. Be sure to measure the width of your door or window to buy the right size tension rod. I think mine was only about $10.00, but they are available in all price ranges. Clip rings are also inexpensive.

Have you ever used a shower curtain as a curtain elsewhere in your home?
