A set of measures have been set up to make the Cannes festival more eco -responsible.A necessity while the event generates numerous waste and carbon emissions.#Lesslasolution
When the red carpet rhymes with a greener Croisette. This year, the Cannes Film Festival has made a set of decisions aimed at limiting its carbon footprint and reducing its waste.Recycling of the red carpet, removal of plastic bottles and electric sewers...So many measures to make the festival a more eco -responsible event...But also, probably, to restore, or rather reject his image.
#Cannes2021: The festival is committed to the environment from the 74th edition, from July 6 to 17, 2021, 12 eco -responsible actions will be implemented to include the event in a movement with issues that have become decisive.More info ► https: // t.CO/ZN7DAM4YPC PIC.twitter.COM/RLPKCBDE6P

The famous red carpet rolled up on the steps of the palace does not escape the new environmental policy of the festival."So far the carpet was changed at each gala session so that each time a film team goes up the steps, it is entitled to an immaculate carpet. There, we decided not to change the carpet only once a day.We are going to divide by two the volume of carpets used, ”explains François Desrousseaux, general secretary film market at the Cannes Film Festival. The carpet is fully recyclable and recylclé, and will be given to the association "La reserve des arts" to be reinstated in the recycling circuit. In all, 950 kilos of fabric will be saved.
Real environmental measures
Another big step forward: the removal of plastic bottles inside the festival palace. The 22,000 bottles usually consumed were replaced by 18 water fountains.Besides that, the number of sorting bins has multiplied. As for festival -goers, they were lightened thanks to the dematerialization of programs. What to preserve your back but above all save paper up to 50%."Usually have 5 or 6 pounds, but there is nothing!", Lays a festival -goer, showing his empty bag.
Official cars, on the other hand, go to the electric.60% of the park is made up of electric or hybrid vehicles. Finally, an "environmental contribution" of 20 euros is requested from festival -goers.The sums collected will go to the launch of carbon compensation programs, especially for reforestation. The measures are well received by the public."I'm going to Berlin, I go to other world festivals and I think this policy compared to the environment, Cannes is one of the first festivals to set it up," said a festival -goer."It's a good start, it's first steps that are above all symbolic. But if it can give an example, so it can be positive ”, underlines another.
Too shy advances?
Despite everything, the festival is the subject of criticism from environmental associations.According to the Association for the Defense of the Environment and Nature (ADEN), in 2018, 1,700 landings and aircraft takeoffs were recorded at Cannes airport for the month of May alone. Not to mention the lifestyle led by artists once there...“They come by plane at Cannes and Nice airport, a norria of cars often preceded by bikers all screaming sirens lead them to hotels in order to avoid traffic jams, immense yachts in the bay are forced to operate their enginesall day to have electricity..."Explains Geneviève Huchet, the president of the Aden, at CSR Magazine. The Cannes Film Festival also multiplies by 10 the tonnage of waste generated by the City.It remains to be seen what will be the final assessment of this year.
