Newsletter Lefaso.net Imam Seni Nana: "This Ramadan is an opportunity to challenge Muslims on their role as actors of mercy"

Lefaso.Net: Who should observe Ramadan's fast?

Seni Nana: We are in the blessed month of Ramadan, a month of mercy, a month of worship. It is a month that contains a pillar of Islam which is fasting.Fasting is compulsory for any Muslim who reaches the age of puberty. From 16 - 18 years old, the young Muslim is forced to fast.He must be healthy, in particular enjoying his mental faculties. In summary, the fasting of fasting applies to any Muslim Pubert who enjoys his mental faculties.Nevertheless certain conditions, if they are met, allow the faithful Muslim not to observe the fast.

And what are the categories of people exempt from fasting?

God, prescribing fasting, took into account the human character. At times, we are quite decreased by the disease or by age.Our sisters who are in times of menstruation, pregnancy or who are breastfeeding above all, for fear for their health or for the health of their baby, can observe a break in fasting to reimburse them later or compensate them otherwise.

What are the restrictions that cancel fasting?

There are a number of acts that invalidate fasting. It is forbidden to eat or drink voluntarily from sunrise to sunset. It is also forbidden to have sex.In Islam, sexual relations are made in the context of marriage. But it is not the only restrictions that cancel the young. There is also the fact for the Muslim to take any act that takes him out of Islam.

Because there are certain acts when you put them, you get out of Islam. If this happens, since you are no longer Muslim, your fast is in fact canceled. If you also voluntarily decide not to be in fasting even without eating or drinking, it makes your fast invalid by the intention that has been formulated.

What should be done in the event of non-compliance with the rules and to redeem yourself?

The deliberately rupture of fasting leads to compensation which could be assimilated to a sanction which means that the person must fast for two months to reimburse the day they missed. But if it is a permitted break, the person may judge the opportunity after Ramadan to reimburse. And if it cannot reimburse, there is food compensation that is prescribed. The permitted rupture concerns in particular travelers, breastfeeding or pregnant women, the elderly or anyone in a situation of illness that prevents him from fasting.

Concretely, what is food compensation?

Newsletter LeFaso.net Imam Séni Nana : « Ce Ramadan est une occasion pour interpeller les musulmans sur leur rôle en tant qu’acteurs de miséricorde »

If a person is in a situation that does not allow him to fast, he has the obligation to feed a poor per day not fast and this, during the 30 days or in a single blow from the beginning of Ramadan.

What are the right behaviors to adopt to succeed in Ramadan?

To successfully succeed in Ramadan, the Muslim must observe a certain number of behaviors, including good neighborhood, good family behavior, especially with his parents, his wife or husband and his children. There is also the good behavior that we must have in our services, in circulation in the city.

The Hadith of the Messenger of Allah says: "When the Muslim is in fasting and someone attacks him, he says to the person, I am fasting".This implies that fasting prescribes the obligation to observe an attitude of patience, forgiveness and understanding towards our fellow men.Patience that makes us in a situation where it is peace around us that prevails. These are behaviors that we must have.

It is also the behavior of being in a continuous learning situation.During the month of Ramadan, we will have comments from the Koran, fairly diverse sermons, and Koranic readings sessions.Any Muslim must practice these actions in order to best successfully succeed in his fasting which is one of the best actions. And this is what will weigh on the Muslim balance on the day of the Last Judgment.

During this month, people have sugar.Does this gift have more merits compared to others?

In Burkina Faso, Ramadan rhymes with sugar sharing. It is understandable because in our households, at the break, we consume sweet foods, in particular zoom-koom (sugar water made from small millet), bissap and other. Also, it is a fairly accessible food that is more likely to be given as a gift.If we take a cardboard of sugar, easily it can be given as a gift and the person who gives or receives finds his account.

But in terms of merit, the dates come in first position followed by water.I recommend that to each other not to exaggerate in the sharing of sugar.Because most often those to whom they give sugar have other more pressing needs, especially in the food field (rice, sorghum). It is according to the real need and not to be in the automation of the purchase of sugar to share.

Ramadan 2022 is held in a very difficult security context, does this recommented the Muslim a special attitude?

Our current context which is that we are faced with several challenges;security and humanitarian challenges especially.Because there are more than a million internal displaced that must be taken care of.This Ramadan is an opportunity to challenge Muslims on their role as actors of mercy, who like to share and who must share with their brothers and sisters. We must also be in prayer.Whatever the degree of difficulties in which we are, Allah Soubhana wa ta’ala will be able to get us out.

I would like to thank you and wish that Allah Soubhana wa ta’ala will assist you in your activities and that you can always accompany us in our different activities.
