Here's how often you should clean your gym or yoga mat (we bet you don't do it often enough)

It is certainly not the first thing we think of after a sports session and yet the maintenance of our sports equipment is very important. Starting with that of our gym or yoga mats. We take them everywhere, they lie on the ground, without ever really worrying about their condition.

Just like our towels, our sheets, or even our clothes, they too must be regularly cleaned and disinfected. Mainly a question of hygiene but also a way to optimize the life of your equipment.

Why should you clean your sports mat?

Sports mats can often show various traces: feet, grease, sweat... and thus end up becoming the favorite playground of bacteria. Not to mention the bad odors that can form there, even more so if you share your carpet with several people. Dirt can also, in some cases, damage and alter the quality of the coating of your carpet. Result ? It will have more and more difficulty adhering well to the ground and will only be good to put in the trash.

How to clean a sports mat?

It is therefore for all these reasons that it is recommended to clean your carpet after each use. To do this, you can use quick-drying disinfectant wipes or sprays, such as the one designed by the brand Pour nous, which has the advantage of not leaving a sticky residue and eliminating unpleasant odors.

Every month or every two months, you will have to think about washing your carpet more thoroughly, in the washing machine cold, opting for a gentle cycle without spinning, with very little detergent and no softening. It is also possible to opt for a hand wash with a basin of water and Marseille soap. The key will always be to let your mat dry well before using it again.
