cream of tartar
This powder, generally used in the confection of pastries, is excellent for cleaning old stained tablecloths. In a bowl, soak the tablecloths in hot water with two to three tablespoons of cream of tartar. Leave to act overnight before washing them with your usual detergent. Do not use cream of tartar in a porcelain or acrylic sink as it may damage its finish.
Cornstarch
Mix equal parts cornstarch and warm water to remove a blood stain from a mattress. Apply the paste to the stains and let it dry completely before removing this starchy crust.
Sugar and vegetable oil
The combination of oil and sugar will clean grease and paint stained hands while leaving hands feeling clean and moisturized.
The meat tenderizer
This product, found in the spice aisle of supermarkets, removes formula stains from mom's and baby's clothes. Simply rub the stains with this powder diluted in a few drops of water. Leave to act for ten minutes before washing the garment with the usual detergent.
Milk
Surprisingly, a glass of milk slowly poured over a tomato sauce stain on a carpet or upholstered piece of furniture can neutralize the stain. Leave to act for a few minutes before blotting with a paper towel.
